Kinder Haus & Family Life at Cedar Haven

A Screen-Free Sanctuary for Creative Families & Every Generation

Welcome to Kinder Haus

Nestled on our 5-acre campus, Kinder Haus is a warm, dedicated child-watch cottage designed to support family life across every generation. We believe that children thrive in environments that nurture imagination, curiosity, and peaceful play.

Kinder Haus offers a completely screen-free sanctuary where young ones engage in open-ended exploration. Inside the cozy cottage, children will find beautiful wooden toys, rich children's literature, open-ended building blocks, and hands-on art materials. Managed by well-qualified and attentive caregivers, Kinder Haus ensures your children are safe, engaged, and inspired while you take time to refresh on campus.

Beyond regular child-watch hours, Cedar Haven hosts regular family-centered gatherings and offers unique multi-generational benefits included in your Household Membership to enrich your family's experience:

Monthly Kids Events

Each month, we curate special thematic celebrations designed specifically for children:

  • Stuffy Birthday Party

A heartwarming tradition where children bring their favorite stuffed companion for crafts, pretend tea, games, and celebration.

  • Halloween Activity

Autumn-themed creative crafting, seasonal storytelling, and festive games.

  • December Santa's Workshops

Festive holiday gatherings filled with crafting gifts for each child's loved ones.

Community Gatherings

  • Family Game Nights & 2nd Sunday Shares

Monthly member gatherings held in the Main Hall where children and parents can play board games, share projects, and explore together.

  • Plus One Nights

Designated evening socials allowing members to bring family members or friends to experience the warmth of campus community. Kids enjoy their own evening activities in the Kinder Haus while the grown-ups have dinner and a themed activity.

Multi-Generational Family Perk

Family connectivity is at the heart of our mission. When active Society Memberships are held by both a parent and a grandparent, their shared children/grandchildren receive completely free access to Kinder Haus for all open hours and events. This benefit is designed to make multi-generational campus visits effortless and accessible for the entire family.

Campus Safety & Youth Guidelines

To protect our peaceful library environment, preserve safety, and maintain legal compliance across our campus, all youth activities follow campus guidelines:

  • -

On-Site Parental Requirement: State regulations and our legal drop-in exemption require that parents or grandparents remain physically present on our 5-acre campus at all times while children are checked into Kinder Haus. Children may never be left on campus unattended unless enrolled in a scheduled class, guild, or special event.

  • -

Main Building Supervision: The Main Hall, Reading Room, and hearth lounges are quiet spaces reserved for contemplative study, reading, and adult conversation. Outside of designated family event days (such as 2nd Sunday Share and Game Nights), accompanied children must remain closely supervised by their parents in these areas.

  • -

Outdoor Play & Exploration: Children are welcome to explore our outdoor walking trails, lawns, and natural play spaces under parental supervision. Parents are responsible for their child's safety and making sure play spaces are clean before leaving.

  • -

Active Studio Boundaries: To ensure physical safety, children under the age of 14 are strictly prohibited from entering the art studio or garage, unless explicitly enrolled in a structured youth workshop. Youth over 12 years of age are allowed in the art studio accompanied by a parent.

  • -

Safety & Staffing Commitments: Kinder Haus operates under strict age-specific attendant-to-child safety ratios to ensure attentive care. Childcare personnel undergo background checks and first-aid training.

Frequently Asked Questions

What age groups are accepted in Kinder Haus?
Kinder Haus accepts children from infants (6 weeks) up to 12 years of age. Staffing ratios are adjusted based on the ages of children present to maintain safety standards.
Can I leave campus to run errands while my child is in Kinder Haus?
No. Federal and state legal exemptions for drop-in childcare mandate that a parent or guardian remain physically on the property for the entirety of the child's stay. The exception is when a child attends a registered class, guild, or Kinder Haus special events.
Do I need to reserve child-watch spots in advance?
Yes. To ensure we never exceed safety ratios, reservations must be booked in advance through the member portal or directly with the Kinder Haus staff.
How does Kinder Haus differ from public youth classes?
Kinder Haus is an exclusive, private short-term child-watch amenity for members utilizing campus lounges and studios. Public youth classes (run through Cedar Haven Craftworks) are structured, ticketed instructional workshops held in dedicated classroom spaces where drop-off rules differ based on class length.
What is the food and beverage policy for Kinder Haus?
Children may bring a labeled water bottle and a simple, nut-free personal snack.
